Hi Tim,
I've just had a trip to your website and loved all the pictures - you haven't changed one bit! It was also nice to see some familiar faces, Myra from Panama, David Weatherley, Steve Blagden (he was my admin. manager when I was a trainee in Gibraltar. I never forget how kind he was to me when I'd just arrived there.) The web-site was a great idea for a leaving gift, very original.
I'll root out my inspection photos and if I find any of interest to you I'll send them via e-mail.
Bye for now
Alison

We wish you all the best for your retirement.
After having extensively travelled all over the world, we hope that you will be able to enjoy your sweet home while cherishing many happy memories from 22 years in International Audit at Lloyds.
There is a song in German that states that at 60 life really starts.
So, happy start from Swiss Internal Audit Team.

Tim,
Your e-mail and co-ordinates of the web-site only got to me about a week ago and, being in the middle of one of those internal changes of career direction that seems to have been typical of all of we LBI 'oldies', I have only now got around to dropping this line to you, in the calm of a Geneva Sunday afternoon.
Your site made fascinating reading, and I realized that, for someone whom I have known for many years (ironically it dates from Geneva in 1980, when you and John Franck came to do an audit of a department then called EDP - and look what it has mushroomed to, to find itself under the same set of EDP initials but this time those of its leader !), I knew surprisingly little ! I had no idea that you were a fellow 'classicist', but suppose I could have intuitively worked that out. I only know that you have far more efforts at keeping in touch than I have over these years, and I can only say that it has been my loss for being such a dismal correspondent.
The term 'valedictory' sounds awfully final and so I nonetheless hope that the inveterate globe-trotter in you will bring you to Switzerland at one point again. On the other hand it looks as if I will become a more frequent visitor to the UK in the future and so that may also provide the opportunity to catch up some years of news.
Kind regards to you and Anna, and a hale and hearty retirement for you both,
Mark Preston.

Tim,
The Bank is once again a sadder place as another character gets through the escape tunnel. Apart, perhaps, when you were "contributing" to one of my "capture the hearts and minds" Libra sessions, you know that I have always valued your company, humour and zest and enthusiasm for life. I only wish I had met up with you international guys about 20 years earlier so I too could have enjoyed all of the sights, sounds, smells and illnesses that you have experienced.
I'm sure you know that I couldn't miss the chance to remind you once again of our trip to Colombia. For me it was such a new and exciting challenge and for you, of course, it was the time that Keith Moss and I awarded you Breakfaster of the Year and Driver of the Decade titles. That Bogota traffic and the state of the roads was the worst I had ever experienced. Your driving was so bad and inconsiderate that you met the locals head on and won. It was just a pity that Keith and I had to go through the experience for 3 hours every day.
Well done in getting to 60 and I wish you continued health, happiness and success in the future.
David Vaughan

Tim,
It couldn't happen to a nicer person. Tim must be about the last of the old guard in Inspection.
I don't know that I have any amusing anecdotes but I do have very strong memories of lunch times in LBI days, which took place on the top floor of the Queen Victoria Street building, when politics was the main subject of discussion/violent argument. Ours was not the most right-wing table there, but among others, Chris Miller sat there, often with Tim. Tim and Chris were at the extreme ends of the spectrum with Chris, belonging to the TA at the time, always anxious to get in his tank and set off for Moscow, and Tim always trying to put sugar in his petrol tank. Tim usually held his own very well against formidable opposition. I think politics was Tim's main extra-mural activity at the time so he probably benefited from the occasion.
I had forgotten about Bygravian Bolivars, which now you mention them, I recall were a significant part of the test data for our computer system, as was the main customer and account holder, Sir Jeremy Mouse. I think Tim always inspected these with special care.
Regards
Nick

Tim,
It's sad indeed to see the departure of such a staunch ideological soul mate. The last time we met up we were hoping (if not expecting) that 'Senator' Pinochet might have the opportunity of experiencing some Spanish sunshine to help improve his health. Alas, alas. I've always enjoyed our talks and regret only that they haven't been more frequent. Do enjoy your well-deserved retirement.
Very best regards.
Mike Tuer
PS: You probably don't know this but I am indebted to you for teaching me the difference between "apprise" and "appraise". It's funny how few people seem to know the difference between the two words!

Tim,
Congratulations on your retirement - a major achievement to reach 60 in LTSB! I am sure you will enjoy your retirement whether you remain in Colchester or continue to globetrot.
On a more serious note, I have to thank you for your friendship and support during my time in Amsterdam (1993), despite not working directly for you, you were friendly and supportive to a young Assistant Manager who had just left the UK retail branch network and had never worked overseas before - I have not forgotten your kindness.
Best wishes to you and your family
Regards
Duncan Alcock

Tim,
I have only inspected with you a few times but always enjoyed the experience.
There was always at least one memorable event on each inspection which I remember vividly: Joining a queue to leave Lantau Island, visiting a folk club in Sao Paulo, presenting the 'advantages' of Common System over GBS in Brussels, how to claim for a ripped suite from London Council just to mention four. I also remember your care and understanding of those not on the top rungs of management and your willingness to take up their causes for them even when it was not a popular thing to do.
I hope that both you and Anna have a well-earned retirement.
Trevor Stone
